Saw Coyote vs Acme today. It’s a great film, everyone knows that, no need for a 10,000 word essay about it. So yeah, go see it. What this review is about is my film-going experience.

First, it was $10 AUD to get in. About $6.50 USD so cheap, cheap, cheap! Pop and popcorn were a total of $13.50. So $23.50 all added up. That’s about $15 or $16 USD. We are in Caloundra, a seaside touristy town, and this is an indie theatre, not some POS chain mega theatre with fucking Dolby surround sound and $15 Cokes. No, this is a good, old-fashioned theatre that offers real value for money. We need to support businesses like this! It is the Strand Cinema in Caloundra, QLD, just about a block and a half from our swanky beach pad

The commercials before the movie were a real drag. When I was a kid back in America, we had cartoons before the movie and back then, the only movies I saw were cartoons. Mostly. I did see Santa Claus Conquers the Martians at a Christmas party at a theater so that was cool. I remember thinking about this as a kid once and telling myself that I’d never need to see a movie that wasn’t a cartoon, because hey, I was a kid and kids love cartoons. Strangely enough, mercifully perhaps, there were no previews. Well not really, just a couple short ads for upcoming dopey kids movies. Angry Birds 3, for example. Sigh.

As is typical of the modern tourist town movie experience, there was a bit of white trash in the theatre. The adults in this case were fine but their bastard kids were little shits that left a huge mess behind. Popcorn, wrappers, and booster seats all astray. I used to work in movie theatres in my youth, and I loved every second of it, and that is why this sort of behaviour burns me up. The only thing worse is feet up on the seats, that makes me want to whack someone upside the head with a flashlight. You see, I was an usher with a cool flashlight with a red cone on it and I wielded special authority to make bad shit happen to unruly movie patrons. I took no pleasure in kicking people out but sometimes it had to be done. (Who am I kidding, I fucking loved it!)

So, while I lament certain facts, the overall experience was still excellent. The movie was great, nobody made any phone calls while it was playing, and I got out of there for under 25 bucks, value impossible to achieve at a chain theatre.

Movie: 10/10
Overall $ value: 10/10
Experience: 9/10
